Sustainable Community Development in Mining
In Environment, Social & HumanitarianAbout this course
Introduction
To achieve significant sustainability-linked transformation, there is urgent need for better understanding how the extractive mining sector for key minerals such as gold, marble, precious stones and other high value minerals can transform the communities’ relationships, the natural and social environment to achieve sustainable futures in mining regions.
Against this background, this course addresses the key fundamental linkages between mining and societal transformation towards sustainability (T2S) in Artisanal & Small-scale Gold Mining (ASGM), by examining how existing ASGM dynamics can develop into sustainable mining futures. Key linkages between mining, the environment and sustainable economic and societal transformation are covered.
