Course Description, Aims and Objectives
The Certificate in Upstream oil and Gas Contracts and Production Sharing Agreements is a comprehensive and practical programme that is ideal for those who wish to broaden their understanding of the legal and commercial fundamentals of the oil and gas industry. This course will enable participants to gain an insight into the key principles that regulate oil and gas activities. The programme will be facilitated by industry – renowned trainers and participants will be exposed to the agreements that are entered into by companies for the joint development, exploration, production, processing and marketing of oil and gas.
Relevant regional, international and global instruments will be examined and analysed to give participants a firm grasp of the legal environment. The course will primarily place emphasis on the commonwealth legal system, but other legal system systems will also be covered to give a comprehensive perspective from other hydrocarbon provinces.

By the end of the course, participants would be able to:

- Review petroleum contract structures that governments and oil companies use to grant petroleum rights and govern petroleum activities
- Analyze key petroleum agreements relating to exploration, development and marketing of oil and gas

- Explain and analyze key legal responsibilities and rights under the law currently in place.
- Demonstrate analytical and research skills in oil and gas regulatory practices in Uganda and as well as regionally and globally.
- Identify the gaps in the regulatory structure and propose remedial provisions to be considered for mitigating the shortcomings in the law.
